Nicola is one of our awesome volunteer Leaders! She leads a group of Rangers (girls 13-17 years old). Hear what her experience has been like.

“My name is Nicola Igusa, I am a ranger leader in Te Atatu.

Its been a such a strange year this year with the global pandemic and one of the things I really noticed with guiding is that it a provided a safe space even when we were online during the lock downs that the girls could be themselves and have a little bit of normal.

I think the thing that I really noticed with the brownies and the rangers that I was leading during the lock downs is their resilience. They were really willing to turn up and try new things, connect with each other and really happy to see each other!

The most important thing to me about girl guiding is it offers girls a place where their capability and their strength is not taken for granted, but its assumed that they will be able to succeed on their terms and find their way in the world in the way they want to.”
