5-6 years

The adventure starts here. Make friends, tackle challenges, find adventure and earn cool badges that show off what you’ve learned along the way.

  • Find the Southern Cross
  • Make a kite
  • Have an indoor sleepover

7-9½ years

Brownies are becoming more aware and independent. Lead the adventure and have a say in what you do. Earn badges in teams and on your own.

  • Go camping
  • Write and perform skits
  • Get outdoors with new friends
  • Learn cooking and crafts
9-12½ years

At Guides you are growing into a leader, making decisions about what challenge you’ll take on next - whether it’s community action or learning to surf.

  • Learn about the heart, body and mind

  • Cook a feast outdoors
12½-17 years

At Rangers, you’re setting your own goals and achieving them. You might travel to international camps or events and help lead the younger groups to share what you’ve learned.

Explore Pippins
5-6 years old

All the fun from Pippins, delivered digitally through a world-first platform! Girls tackle challenges, find adventures and earn cool badges that show off what they’ve learned along the way.

  • Build robots
  • Learn mindfulness
  • Hunt for bugs and learn about our planet
  • Do activities online to understand science facts
Explore Brownies
7-9½ years

Adventures and independence, delivered digitally through our Explore platform! Brownies are becoming more aware and start leading their own adventures. They will earn cool badges and have access to national, regional and local events to meet other girls.

  • Invent vehicles
  • Learn about ecology and sustainability
  • Explore cooking and creative skills
  • Build bird feeders, world games and outdoor fun

There are other ways you can be involved too...

If you can't make it to weekly meetings and don't have an Explore option for your age-group, you can be part of our Aotearoa programme or come along to our pop-up GirlPowered NZ events that run over weekends or school holidays.

5-17 years

GirlPowered NZ offers one-off themed events that are designed to challenge girls in a variety of environments. Topics include STEM, outdoor recreation, financial literacy and outdoor adventures. Best of all, girls do not have to by Guiding members to take part!

  • Events are open to all girls (not just GirlGuiding members)
  • Morning, afternoon or one-day events, generally during a weekend or school holidays
  • Events are tailored specifically to girls' age groups and interests
9-17 years

Aotearoa groups deliver our programmes in a whole new way. If you can’t attend a local group of Guides or Rangers for any reason, Aotearoa can deliver the programme via post, email, online - or even by text.

  • Perfect if you live far away from the nearest unit
  • Great if you are at boarding school
  • If you have other activities on the night your local unit meets

Join us as a volunteer or reconnect as alumnae


Volunteering with us is an opportunity to be a role model for girls and young women teaching them valuable teamwork, leadership and life skills. You don’t need to be an expert, we’ll provide you with the training you need. We have several volunteering options to suit your lifestyle.

  • Work with girls and young women - choose the age group you work with
  • Work with adults - help and support other volunteers to deliver amazing opportunities
  • Join as a casual volunteer - perfect if you can’t make a weekly, fortnightly or monthly commitment

If you were once a Guide, Leader, volunteer or employee with GirlGuiding New Zealand, there are plenty of ways you can stay involved.

  • Join our Connect Network for 16-25 year olds. Travel, volunteer, learn new skills and stay in touch as you work towards valuable qualifications.
  • Join the Olave Baden-Powell Society, a global group building the capital funds of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)
  • The Trefoil Guild is open to alumnae of GirlGuiding NZ or any member country of WAGGGS over 19 years old
  • Join Young Women and receive invitations to attend or help at Guiding events, participate in taskforces, or help with local initiatives
