What Happened to April 2020?

Waived fees for our term two. Virtual Guides. #YOUBETHEGUIDE Challenges. New digital Explore platforms!

When our Government announced on Monday 23 March that we would be going into a four-week lockdown, we knew this was going to change the lives of so many of our families. So, the GirlGuiding NZ Board made an unprecedent decision – to waive all girls’ fees during term two, and all Explore fees for 2020.

We want to support our current member families by removing a potential stress for them, whilst ensuring that we can continue to provide our empowering programmes to their girls. Even better, that offer applies to any new girls as well – they can become part of our family for free during Term 2.

So far, we have had six weeks of virtual Guiding and, even though there were a few snags to work through, it has definitely been worth it to continue build girls’ courage and resilience, and offer a sense of connection, normalcy and friendship in these uncertain times.

Here is what happened to April for us our and our Guiding whānau!

Girls ‘met’ virtually using different platforms once a week to share with each other and update their Leaders on the progress of the tasks they needed to do to achieve certain badges.

We launched a Guiding holiday programme to do during the break from weekly meetings. (This is open for EVERYONE to download, if you want to check it out go here. AND there will be a new one for July!)

Our girls participated in countless challenges and did some pretty cool things like Chalk Art for the Heart, creating alternative musical instruments, a staycation, Mothers’ Day ‘gifts’ and so much more… check some of them out below!

Excitingly, our Development Team raced through the work required to bring an option of our Brownies to life on our custom-designed digital platform, Explore; currently both Pippins and Brownies can make use of this online option which is available from any device, any time, from anywhere in the country!
