As many of you will know, restoration work is underway at the Auckland Guide Centre.
This is a significant project, being carried out by Kelly Harvey from Eden Build, an experienced builder who specialises in restoring heritage buildings. It’s a careful and considered process rather than a quick fix, with a focus on preserving the building for future generations.
As the Centre is subject to the Auckland Unitary Plan, we must work within specific guidelines to avoid triggering a resource consent process, which could add considerably to the project’s costs.
Our first priority has been making the building watertight, addressing long-term leaks that have caused damage to windowsills and surrounding walls. Work is currently progressing across both the East and West wings, with our builder moving between areas depending on what needs attention, what has dried out, and what can be tackled next.
The photos above offer a glimpse of the progress being made and some of the restoration challenges being addressed.
A special thank you to the Stout Trust, whose generous funding has supported much of the restoration work completed to date.
We look forward to sharing more updates as this important project progresses!
