OUR NEW NATIONAL AWARDS TOHU

Following the name changes and the introduction of new awards within the GirlGuiding New Zealand Leadership Recognition Framework in 2025 and 2026, we needed to create new tohu (badges) to recognise volunteers with these awards.

We wanted a set of National Awards represented by tohu that felt cohesive, incorporated Te Ao Māori elements, and included the GirlGuiding New Zealand logo.

The National Awards Portfolio Holder and Te Rōpū Māori worked closely with our in-house Graphic Designer to develop four new tohu, and we thank everyone involved for their contribution.

We are pleased to launch these tohu and look forward to recognising our national award recipients with these refreshed designs.

Each tohu uses natural flora to represent its name and includes our logo within a koru. The koru symbolises the continued learning, growth, and development of volunteers receiving these awards.   The badges are metal and finished in silver tone

Kaponga – features silver fern fronds wrapping around the sides, connecting to the previously used Fern tohu.

Kōwhai – incorporates the beautiful yellow kōwhai flowers.

Rimu – with fronds extending from the top, symbolises the nurturing, mentoring, and support recipients provide to others, helping grow those around them.

Kauri – uses green fronds encircling the GGNZ logo to represent the support these volunteers have provided to the organisation’s development and strategic direction.

Congratulations to all of our national award recipients this year. Thank you for your leadership and service.
