International Volunteer Day, 5 December, is time to recognise and connect with an estimated 1 billion volunteers around the globe working on the issues that affect our diverse communities.
This year’s theme, ‘volunteers build resilient communities’ acknowledges the vital role of volunteers in preventing, preparing and responding to shocks and stresses and building resilience.
GirlGuiding New Zealand’s 1300+ volunteers predominantly joined the movement to support their local communities. It is these communities that play a vital in the role of building resilience for our youth.
“Our volunteers are essential to the success of GirlGuiding NZ. They are amazing leaders and outstanding role models for our girls who appreciate their determination, creativity and enthusiasm as much as we do. They are the drivers of our vision that all girls and young women are valued, inspired and empowered to make change in their world”, says Susan Coleman GirlGuiding New Zealand Chief Executive.
“We like to take time on International Volunteer Day to recognise the incredible efforts our volunteers put in, and say thank you”, Coleman says.
