Z Energy ‘Good in the Hood’ Fundraising Campaign

Want to help your unit win a share of $1 million?

The petrol station Z is running their annual ‘Good in the Hood’ fundraising campaign, and they’re inviting grassroots groups to submit a request to participate.

The concept means that selected charities and non-profit organisations can be chosen by customers via tokens, and your group could receive a donation towards camp costs, gear, or other awesome adventures.

We would like to invite you to submit a request to participate if there is a Z petrol station near you. The deadline is 29 June 2025.

Here are instructions on how to complete the form:

  1. Check whether there is a Z station nearby.
Please note, Z does not provide a clear definition of what that means. They just state that a group or project needs to ‘be active in the local area around a specific Z service station’.

  2. If yes, visit their Good in the Hood webpage: https://www.z.co.nz/about-z/what-we-stand-for/community/good-in-the-hood/

  3. Click on the orange button ‘Apply Now’

  4. Select ‘yes’ for all eligibility questions and then click the blue button ‘check eligibility’.

  5. Next, you will be taken to the application form

  6. Enter your name and contact details in the section on the left.

  7. Enter your group details on the right. This includes a drop-down option asking which category your group sits under. We recommend you choose ‘Youth Empowerment’ or ‘Education’.

  8. The charity registration number is CC22069

  9. The question ‘Tell us how your group is led’ and we recommend selecting ‘Youth led’.

  10. The most important question is up next:  ‘Tell us about the good your group does in your hood’. This is broken down into two parts:

    A. Explain how your group helps your local community.
    B. Tell us how your group has made a difference in your local community in the last 12 months? (You can also include links to news articles your unit may have featured in)

You only have 1,000 characters including spaces for each sub question, so we recommend one brief general statement about GirlGuiding (e.g. as described on our website), followed by specific examples of activities your group delivers locally to help the community and/or environment. Bullet points are sufficient but be sure to be specific.

Here’s an example from a successful application from last year: Our volunteers create safe spaces for over 50 girls aged 5-14 in our weekly meetings (Pippins, Brownies, Guides and Rangers). We are a unique girl-led organisation that helps our members grow more confident. We offer a range of activities, including regular camps and adventurous activities. Our members are empowered to make a difference in their communities and advocate for causes that are important to them.

  11. For the question ‘Your Group Profile: In one sentence tell us about the local need your group is helping to meet’, we recommend using our shortened version of our mission:

We enable girls and young women to develop into confident, adventurous and empowered leaders.

  12. Upload one high quality photo of your group doing something good in the community. They recommend smiling faces and close-up action shots.

  13. Enter the social media and website links.

  14. Almost done! You’ll be asked if you are willing to spend some time at the Z service station with the team, if successful. We recommend that you choose Yes if possible. Being present in the GirlGuiding uniform and telling the public about your mahi will increase the number of votes, and create some publicity opportunities as well!

  15. Finally, enter two contact details of people who can be contacted for questions if needed. Then accept the Ts&Cs and click submit.

If you are stuck with the form, please contact Z directly on 0800 474 355 or via email: [email protected]

Good luck!
