We've Got You Girl - Our Funds

We know that everyone’s financial situation is different, and where possible we’re here to help. We understand the financial challenges some of our families face and we are committed to supporting our members.

We recently announced that membership fees will increase in 2025, after remaining unchanged for the past five years. We understand this may create financial challenges for some families. To help, a new fund offering extended support has been introduced.  A heartfelt thank you to our generous sponsors and supporters for making this possible.  Short-term support options are also still available.

Families can only apply for one of the two funds.  Click below to find out more.

Let us answer your questions about our funds

Can we apply for both funds?

No, you can only apply for one fund or the other.  The funds are separate and designed for different durations of support.

How do we know if we’re eligible to apply for WGYG funds?

Eligibility for the WGYG Extended Support Fund is open to both new and existing members who need assistance with term fees for 2025.  The WGYG Short Term Support Fund is limited to existing members only.  If you’re unsure whether you qualify, we encourage you to apply, and our team will assess your application.

What are the criteria for applying for WGYG Extended Support Fund?

The WGYG Extended Support Fund is available to families facing hardship, and where the term fee cost is a barrier to fully participating in Guiding. We welcome applications from all Guiding Groups in New Zealand, as well as new members.

Examples of situations where the WGYG Extended Support Fund may be applied include:

  • parent(s) on benefits, or very low income
  • families facing additional challenges
  • families experiencing hardship that is unlikely to change within the year

If you are unsure whether you meet the criteria, we encourage you to apply, and we will assess your eligibility during the review process.

What are the criteria for applying for WGYG Short Term Support Fund?

This fund offers a short-term helping hand for families facing financial challenges that make it difficult to meet term fees.  This fund is specifically for families needing temporary assistance and is intended to help during periods of unforeseen financial strain.  We welcome applications from all Guiding Groups in New Zealand.

Examples of situations where the WGYG Short Term Support Fund may be applied include:

  • recent job loss or redundancy
  • unexpected large expenses, such as urgent medical costs or large home repairs
  • temporary financial hardship due to significant changes in family circumstances
  • families experiencing short-term financial strain

If your family is facing a temporary financial setback that is affecting your ability to pay term fees, we encourage you to apply.  Our team will review your application and determine how we can best assist.

Will we be notified if my application is unsuccessful?

Yes, all applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application once the review process is complete. We aim to notify families as soon as possible after the application period closes.

What can we do if we are unsuccessful with our application?

If your application is unsuccessful, other options available are:

Payment Plan: You can set up a weekly payment plan to spread the cost of membership fees across smaller, more manageable instalments.

Apply for the WGYG Short-Term Fund: Consider applying for next term’s WGYG Short Term Fund.

Other Funding Support: Explore other community or charitable organisations in your area that may provide financial assistance, for example Kiwi Kid Sponsorship through Variety – the Children’s Charity.

When are funds applied to accounts?

Applicants for both funds will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible after the application period closes.

  • WGYG Short Term Support Fund: credits will be applied before the term starts.
  • WGYG Extended Support Fund: credits will be applied termly, before the start of each term.

The WGYG Extended Support Fund will only be available once in 2025, with the application period running from 25 November 2024 – 27 January 2025.  Applicants will be notified as soon as possible after the application period closes.

What happens if we decide to cancel our membership after receiving support from the funds?

If you decide to cancel your membership after receiving support from either fund, the funds applied to your account for the current term may need to be refunded to GirlGuiding New Zealand, depending on the timing of your cancellation.  Please contact us directly at [email protected] to discuss your situation and we will assist you with the necessary steps.

What happens if we don’t attend during the term?

Regular attendance is one of the considerations for receiving the ongoing support from the WGYG Extended Support Fund.  If regular attendance is not maintained, the fund may not be applied for subsequent terms.  Attendance checks may be conducted, and if attendance is low, we may reach out to discuss the situation.  We encourage families to ensure consistent participation to continue benefiting from this support.

We’ve previously received support from the WGYG fund, can I apply again?

Yes, if you have previously received support from our We’ve Got You Girl fund, you may apply again.  Each application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.  We will assess your current situation and determine the level of assistance available based on your needs, however fund support is not guaranteed.

I’m new to GirlGuiding, what do I need to do?

If you are a new member applying for the fund, please complete the enrolment form alongside your application.  Please note that there may be processing delays while we work to place you in an available unit.  Eligibility for funding is conditional on both the receipt of the enrolment form and confirmation of a space within a unit.  We will notify you as soon as we can after receiving your enrolment form.

Can I apply for more than one child?

Yes, families can apply for multiple children in their families, we ask that separate application forms are submitted for each member.

A Special Thank You

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the generous sponsors and supporters who make the We’ve Got You Girl funds possible.  Your contributions help ensure that every member, regardless of their financial situation, has the opportunity to fully participate in Guiding.  Thank you for helping us continue to make a difference in the lives of our members and their families.
