Plastic Free July

Kia Ora,

My name is Teana and I am the Youth Engagement Coordinator at Save the Children NZ. I run our Youth Programme Generation Hope NZ. I am emailing you as we have an opportunity I thought the tamariki and rangatahi you work with might be interested in.

It’s Plastic Free July and we have an amazing opportunity for the tamariki and rangatahi of Aotearoa to unite with children across the globe and take action on climate change. By putting children’s rights first, together we can tackle climate change and invest in a bright future for all children.

What we need now is the collective power of children’s voices to encourage political will. We are inviting children and young people to share what they want to see our leaders to do about climate change.   How to get your tamariki involved:

Write your message! Send us your message by the 7th August using this form. Your inspiring message can be just that, a message, or it could be in the form of a poem, drawing or any other way that you love to express yourself! If you’d rather upload a photo or a drawing of your message you can do that too!

Have Your Message Heard. Your message will be presented by children in recycled plastic bottles to climate and environment representatives from each political party here in Aotearoa on the steps of Parliament on the 15th August. Representatives from your organisation would be more than welcome to join us to hand over the messages!

Change The World. Your message will then travel to New York to join with other children’s voices around the world for the UN Sustainable Development Goals Summit and be presented to world leaders!

Ngā mihi nui,
