Work With Girls

As a Junior Leader  you will be part of a passionate team who: help create fun, welcoming and exciting experiences for girls. You’ll work alongside Unit Leaders, helping with games and activities, setting up and packing down, and encouraging girls to get involved and have fun. It’s a great opportunity to develop your own skills, build confidence and gain leadership experience while being supported by experienced leaders.

Time commitment

  • A regular commitment to help at weekly unit meetings during school term time.
  • Occasional additional time for programme planning, training or special events.

Application Process

To help ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone:

  • You’ll be supported and supervised by the Unit Team Leader and Unit Leaders.
  • Complete Now You Are a Junior Leader within four months of commencing the role, or you may be undertaking the Red Ranger Leadership Badge programme.
  • Junior Leaders are not counted as part of adult ratios and must always be supervised by an adult leader.

As a Trainee Leader you will be part of a passionate team who: provide fun, challenging and exciting programmes for girls while you develop your own leadership skills. You’ll learn alongside experienced leaders, help plan and run meetings and activities, and support opportunities for girls to have a voice in their programme. You’ll receive ongoing training, mentoring and support as you work towards becoming a fully qualified Unit Leader.

Time commitment

  • Approximately 2–3 hours per week during school term time.
  • Some additional time for programme planning, training, events and camps.
  • Time to complete the training modules required as part of your leadership qualification.

Application Process

To ensure the safety of the girls in our care, our application process includes:

  • Interview – to find out more about you and answer your questions.
  • Police vetting, which will be organised by GirlGuiding New Zealand.
  • Working towards the GirlGuiding New Zealand Leadership Qualification: Leader of Girls, to be completed within four months of commencing the role.
  • First Aid training, with training opportunities available as appropriate.

As a Unit Leader you will be a part of a passionate team who: provide a fun, challenging and exciting programme for girls. Facilitate opportunities for girls to contribute and ensure that there is a strong girl voice in the unit. You will receive ongoing training and mentoring opportunities.

Time commitment

  • A regular commitment to attend and help run a weekly unit meeting, for 1-2 hours, generally during term time.
  • Extra time to plan the programme with girls and leaders including camps, excursions and attend trainings. On average 1 hour per week across the term.

Work With Adults 

As a Deputy Local Co-ordinator you will be part of a passionate team who: help keep local GirlGuiding running smoothly, support leaders and units to deliver great programmes, and keep everyone connected. Working closely with the Local Co-ordinator, you’ll provide day-to-day support, step in when needed and help create a welcoming and well-supported environment for volunteers, girls and whānau.

Time commitment

  • This role is for a three-year term, with the option to continue for further two-year terms following a review.
  • Approximately 2–3 hours per week, with flexibility depending on what is happening in your local area.
  • From time to time, some additional time may be required for training and planning.

To ensure the safety of the girls and volunteers in our care, our application process includes:

  • Interview – to find out more about you and answer your questions.
  • Police vetting, which will be organised by GirlGuiding New Zealand.
  • Completion of the required Leadership Qualification: Leader of Adults and mentoring modules within four months of commencing the role.
  • Completion of OGM – How To training within four months of commencing the role.
  • First Aid training, with training opportunities available.

As a Unit Administrator you will be part of a passionate team who: help keep a unit running smoothly by providing valuable behind-the-scenes support. You’ll assist with tasks such as updating records, organising information, bookings and communications, freeing up Unit Leaders to focus on delivering great programmes and experiences for girls.

Time commitment

  • This is a flexible role, with the time commitment varying depending on the needs of the unit.
  • Approximately 1 hour per week, with a little extra time during busy periods such as programme planning or major events.

  • Police vetting, which will be organised by GirlGuiding New Zealand.
  • Completion of the basic OGM – How To webinar within three months of commencing the role.

As a Community Co-ordinator you will be part of a passionate team who: help GirlGuiding shine in your local community, build strong connections with schools and community groups, promote GirlGuiding and support the growth of local units. You’ll also help with recruitment, bring units together and lead local fundraising initiatives to ensure GirlGuiding is visible, supported and thriving in your area.

Time commitment

  • This role is for a three-year term, with the option to continue for further two-year terms following a review.
  • Approximately 1–3 hours per week, with some additional time during busy periods or community events.

As a Local Co-ordinator you will work with a team of local units to provide a safe team environment, leadership, direction and pastoral support to the local team and local Leaders. You will receive ongoing training and support as well as gain transferrable skills that are respected by employers.

Time commitment

  • A regular commitment of between 3-4 hours per week, depending on the workload.
  • The role is flexible and works around your existing schedule but there are some events and meetings that you will have to attend.
