Katy Day is one of our volunteers in Wellington and on 10 November 2019 she will be skydiving to raise funds to empower girls and young women! Here is Katy’s story, in her own words.
“I have always said, ‘why would you ever jump out of a perfectly safe plane?’ Ask any of my friends and they will tell you instantly that I am terrified of the thought of skydiving.
And then, GirlGuiding NZ popped up on my Facebook feed asking me to take on my ultimate adventure by skydiving to raise money to empower more girls. Within minutes, without having a second thought, I registered online.
I have been involved with GirlGuiding for 28 years now. I started out as a Pippin when I was six and moved through each stage. I am now a Ranger leader, mentor, trainer and have benefitted so much from the organisation, both personally and professionally. For me, it was a no-brainer. I am challenging my fear of heights to raise money for a cause that is so close to my heart.
This is the epitome of what GirlGuiding is now – we are not selling biscuits or sitting around knitting. We are literally jumping out of planes! Planes! We are awesome!
I challenge other leaders, parents, friends, family, colleagues – anyone that is passionate about women’s rights – to Take the Leap with me on Sunday, 10 November 2019, at a location near you. To register or find out more information about this exciting event, click the link here.
Thank you for your support.”
PS – if you can’t jump out of a plane, how about sponsoring me on the link here 😊
