SUMMARY:*Applications Closed* Girl Scouts of Japan 70th Anniversary Memorial Camp
DESCRIPTION:Self-funded event. \nParticipants will attend a camp at the National Girl Scout Center\, in Togakushi\, Nagano Prefecture. This memorial camp with Girl Scouts of Gunma is a chance to experience Girl Scouting in Girl Scouts Japan’s 100th year\, and the 70th year of the Gunma Council.  \nTogakushi is a mountain village famous as a ‘power spot’ in Japan\, with a famous series of shrines in its mountains. The village sits above Nagano city and is valued as a slightly cooler retreat from the plains\, due its altitude of 1\,200 metres. Togakushi is also the home of the Togakure (hidden door) Ninja Movement\, and is famous for its soba (buckwheat) noodles.  \nGirlGuiding NZ members will be hosted on a homestay in Gunma at the end of the camp. There is an opportunity to discuss spending a few days in Tokyo as a contingent\, exploring the old and new of one of the world’s greatest mega cities. We already have an experienced Japanese speaking contingent leader selected for this event. \nDates:              Camp 21-24 August 2020 \n                         Homestay 24-26 August 2020 \nGirl members: 15-18 years of age (at time of camp) \nLeaders:   1-2 leaders (dependent on girl numbers) \nCamp cost: 30\,000JPY (approx. SUMMARY:Christchurch Mud Sweat & Tears Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Are you ready to get dirty in 2020? \nThis unique event will challenge you in so many ways. Winter doesn’t have to be dull\, dark and boring anymore. Not when you’ve got the Mud\, Sweat & Tears Challenge to look forward to! \nThis event is about having fun whilst challenging your physical and mental strength. \nThe course is designed to be challenging and if you have average fitness\, determination and a sense of fun\, you will have a ball! Remember\, the mud will wash off\, but the memories will last forever. \nCompete as an individual or get a group of work mates\, friends or the family together as a team and have a crack at this exciting event. \nThe 5 km or 10 km course will take you over the rugged hills\, through pine tree plantations and of course into some muddy marshes. The courses could include a variety of mud slides\, forest runs\, hay bale pyramids\, a crawl under a sea of barbed wire\, horse jumps\, water jumps\, wobbly bridges\, mud runs\, floating platforms and more. DESCRIPTION:For adult members 18 – 30 years old. \nAre you looking for an international trip with a difference? \nAre you interested in combining tourism with environmental education and service? \nIf so\, this could be the trip for you. \nThis project has been developed in association with Triadhos Three-generation Barge Program and Girl Guide Association of Thailand.  \nThe Thailand Challenge aims to broaden the experience of adult members 18 – 30 by: \n\nExploring the outdoors through observation and investigation of Thailand’s culture\, history and environment\nSharing the ethos of Guiding through interaction with Australian\, New Zealand and Thai Girl Guides in formal and non-formal activities.\n\nThis is a self-funded event being run by Guides Australia. SUMMARY:Volunteer Training – Outdoor Essentials
DESCRIPTION:To make sure our volunteers are equipped with all the skills they need to lead girls in outdoor adventures safely\, we provide this training opportunity to new volunteers who want to obtain their Leader Qualification\, or to volunteers who have been with GirlGuiding NZ for over two years and want to refresh their outdoor essentials knowledge.\nThis is a one-day training and will cover the Outdoor Essentials and other Modules. The Outdoor Essentials training is part of the Leadership Qualification.  \nVolunteers who do not have their Leadership Qualification will need to complete the Outdoor Essentials Training. Outdoor Essentials covers basic outdoor skills\, such as a practical hands-on session using a gas cooker safely\, outdoor cooking and activities to do in the outdoors. It will also cover how to run safe and fun outdoor programmes.\nThe other modules covered include: Camp Fire Songs and Activities\, Burma Trails & Activities\, Rope & Poles\, Night Games\, Parks & Trails\, Outdoor Cooking. (Each of these modules is 90 minutes in duration) \nInvitations for training happening around New Zealand will be sent via OGM. After completing this module a Leader can take girls to an overnight event organised by another provider. After an indoor camp assessment\, the Leader can run their own indoor camps.\nOutdoor Camp Certificate – Completing this overnight module will give you the skills to take your girls camping in tents. After assisting an approved experienced Leader to plan and run a camp you will then plan and run an assessment camp for your girls. Note: A separate kit list will be forwarded closer to the training by the trainers. This is a practical training and trainees will be sleeping in tents and are expected to take part in all activities.\nLightweight Skills (for Lightweight Camp Certificate) – This module covers additional skills if you wish to take your girls lightweight camping\, where all equipment is backpacked to the site.\nInvitations for training happening around New Zealand will be sent via OGM. DESCRIPTION:Start Time: January 19\, 2020 January 23\, 2020 \nVenue / Address: Taitamariki\, Auckland \n\n\n \nAnimal ENVentures is a five day camp with a focus on animals and the environment! There will be hands-on experiments and activities for the girls designed to spark new passions and build on existing interests. The programme is focused on a STEM application and is sure to delight young minds! \nIn addition to an action-packed itinerary\, girls will also have the chance to meet new friends and create memories to last a lifetime! \nHighlights from previous camps have included outings to Universities\, Zoos\, Aquariums\, Engineers without Borders\, and undertaking science experiments.  \nNumbers are limited so get in today to avoid missing out!   \nCRITERIA AND HOW TO APPLY:\n\nGirls must be current Guiding members aged 10-17 years.\nMinimum camping experience of 2 nights at a guide camp and the recommendation of their leader.\nAttendees will be chosen on a first-in first-served basis combined with meeting the above criteria and getting a balance of ages.\n\nTo apply to attend simply complete the online application form. \n \nCLICK HERE TO APPLY.\nApplicants will be advised if their application was successful/unsuccessful on Saturday 16 November.
