Te Ropu Tamariki : After School Clubs

About Us

Te Ropu Tamariki Mission Statement:

Providing a safe, stable environment where children can learn basic life and social skills in an enjoyable and interesting manner, so creating and maintaining healthy self-esteem.

What do we do?

The aim of Te Ropu Tamariki is to teach boys and girls, aged between 7 - 11 years, various life and social skills. This is achieved by providing a safe and stable environment where they can learn, have fun and feel better about themselves.

Who runs Te Ropu Tamariki?

The after school programme is run and coordinated as a Community Development Project by Guides New Zealand. As well as trained and qualified staff, the clubs are also assisted by volunteers.

Staff at each session can include a Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor and volunteers.

How to enrol

Children are selected and invited to join the club operating from their school. Consultation will also take place with the child's teachers.

Why are the clubs so good?

The clubs are held on participating school's premises and on 'club day' children go directly to club. School initiatives are reinforced, kids explore health, family and community issues, but most of all they have fun, fun, fun! See some examples of our Programmes

Will my child enjoy the club?

The programme content gets rave reviews and the leaders are very popular and relate well to the children. Club members gain increased confidence, self-esteem and social skills, go on outings, as well as basic life skills such as first aid, health and hygiene, cooking and sewing etc. At the end of every term all clubs attend an outing. Children keep coming back, they smile and giggle, share their skills at home, and contribute in the classroom.

Te Ropu Tamariki club evaluations are undertaken by children, parents/caregivers, school principals, volunteers and staff twice yearly.

Is it free to join?

Why the use of volunteers?

We have a pool of volunteers from the local communites aiming for a ratio of one adult to five children in each club. This ratio enables us to ensure each child is receiving maximum supervision and encouragement. The children also benefit from the positive role model portrayed by the volunteers. Trainings are provided and volunteers are encouraged to attend as many trainings as they can.
